We care about our footprint on this precious earth that we work and live. We support the sustainability of our WA producers, artists and small businesses by shining a light on what they do best. It is a core part of what we do and one of the main reasons Hidden deTours was created. Support Local Ethos
Our tours helpthe hidden appear less hidden by exposing locals and visitors to local choices.
Supporting local is central to our business and we are very proud of the range of experiences that showcase our local wineries, breweries, cideries distilleries, foodie producer, artists and cultural bodies.
We provide opportunities for participants to go ‘behind the scenes’ and ‘meet the maker’to further enrich their connection to the producecreated locally.
We buy Australian made products, as much as we can, for cleaning, office and delivery of tours.
Food and Drink
We prioritise visiting local producers or local businesses who offer local produceto reducefood miles.
Keeping food wastage at a minimum is important when we order food as part of a tour.
Bus Tours
We have one Toyota Commuter 14-seater bus which has regular services.
Smaller vehicles are preferred over larger vehicles, as they are more likely to fit in commercial parking spaces and have fewer emissions.
Designated parking spaces are utilised over parking on green space.
Hidden deToursaims to depart with 75% capacity on bus tours, where possible.
Group bus tours are prioritised as they minimise the number of cars on the road, which in turn decreases carbon emissions.
In the future, we aim to upgrade to an environmentally friendly vehicle.
Walking Tours
We introduced walking tours into our repetiteur to reduce carbon emissions and to create opportunities for people enjoy the fresh air whilst getting their steps in at the same time too.
Cleaning
Care is taken to ensure water is not wasted when cleaning the bus.
The products used to clean the vehicle are environmentally friendly.
VIP lanyards are provided for each guest to wear on tour. They are cleaned and disinfected before each tour, so the lanyards do not contribute to landfill.
Plastic
To reduce the impact of plastic on the environment we no longer provide plastic bottles on the bus or for walking tours.
We encourage participants to bring their own environmentally friendly water bottles to refill throughout the tour.
At each venue we visit on tour, glasses and bottles of water are provided at each venue.
Anyplastic bottles left on the bus are recycled using the Containers for Change program.
Office
We operate a home base office, so there is no additional energy usage to power up a brick-and-mortar shopfront. It also means no commuting costs. Win win!
Electrical devices in the Hidden deTours home office are switched off when not in use.
Documents are saved digitally. Paper that is no longer required is recycled.
We opt for eco-friendly materials
Community and Culture
Each tour starts with an acknowledgement of country to pay respects to First Nations people on the land the tour takes place.
We believe First Nations history is best shared by First Nations people and we encourage participants to experiencelocal cultural tours.
We also partner with First Nations tour operators to deliver cultural tours.
Our historical tours reflect on our colonial history and are well researched to ensure accuracy.
We like to give back to the community by donating tours to select not for profit organisations to use as auction items or prizes.
We currently employ performing artists to deliver unique tours at Fringe World Festival each year.
